Are marketing & promotion the same thing?

promotion
Promotion is any activity that keeps your business or products in the minds of your customers, stimulating demand. Promotion is one of the elements of the marketing mix and refers specifically to the activities that communicate the product’s features and benefits and persuade customers to purchase it.

This could include social media, flyers, sponsorship, advertising in magazines, websites, buy one get one free, discounts, loyalty programs, blogging, Google Ads, online directories, optimisation, reviews, LinkedIn, YouTube, newspapers, tradeshows and many more.
Every business is different of course & it isn’t possible or necessary to use them all.
Marketing is usually focused on one product or service

Marketing is a broad, comprehensive process that encompasses all the activities involved in bringing a product or service to market and ensuring its success. It includes understanding customer needs, developing the product, setting the price, choosing the right distribution channels, and promoting the product. The main components of marketing are often described using the 4 Ps:
Product: The goods or services offered to meet customer needs.
Price: The amount customers pay for the product.
Place: The distribution channels through which the product is sold.
Promotion: Finally the activities used to inform and persuade customers about the product.
